For example, a ring with one single 3-carat diamond would be abbreviated 3.00 CW. A ring with several small diamonds with a total weight of 3 carats would be abbreviated 3.00 CTW.

While it may seem obvious, the ring with a single large diamond is worth substantially more. Conversely, a 5.00 CTW ring with many small diamonds is worth considerably less than most 1.00 CW rings with a single diamond.
